2000-P Sacagawea Dollar, First Day Coin Cover - Obv

DESIGN AND HISTORY

Obverse: A portrait of Sacagawea, a young Native American, with her infant son, Jean Baptiste, on her back. Designed by Glenna Goodacre.
Reverse: An eagle in flight. Designed by Thomas D. Rogers Sr.

This First Day Coin Cover was issued by the US Mint to commemorate the new Sacagawea dollar. 200,000 coin covers were produced.

My example here was hand-signed by both obverse designer Glenna Goodacre and reverse designer Thomas D. Roger Sr.

Goodacre signed just thirty-eight coin covers, which were then donated to the New Mexico Nurses Association (NMNA) to be used for fundraising. Roger then later signed my coin cover after I was lucky enough to discuss the Sacagawea reverse design with him.

You can read more about the First Day Coin Cover at the wonderful Small Dollars website.
